Dr Eliyahu Goldratt was a management expert who developed Critical Chain project Management. He has now passed away.
Dr Goldratt is the author of The Goal. It has been sold more than 13 million copies since its publication in 1984. He also wrote Critical Chain. His theories are still influential. Jeff Furman’s book, The Project Management Answer Book, includes a quote from him.
Dr Goldratt created the Theory of Constraints. This management approach is based on the principle that no chain is stronger or weaker than its weakest link. The outcome can always be adversely affected by the weakest link or person in the process. The Theory of Constraints seeks to identify that weak link and make changes.
The Theory of Constraints was the inspiration for Critical Chain project management. This project management approach is based upon having the right resources to complete tasks and can be used as an alternative scheduling method for critical path analysis.
According to Dr Goldratt, the methodology was used in 7 of 8 largest U.S. military air bases to increase productivity by more than 30%.
Dr. Goldratt passed away on Saturday, 11th June 2011.
